Hanlan's Beach, Toronto, Canada.

May 22, 1999 was a great day. It was the opening day for the Toronto Islands. There is a lot of history about these islands. But I will not bore you all with a history lesson right now. Maybe we could have a section where we all could send in a little history on the Nudist Places we all travel to.

One of the Islands is called Hanlan's Point. It is a great beach. In the 60's it was a nudist beach. A few of my friends used to go there. As for me I was barely, no pun intended, born yet. To get to the Toronto Islands one must take a 15 minute ride on a ferry. These ferries are classic, they are so cool. It costs five dollars, which is not bad. There are three different ferries one can take and it will take you to any of the three Islands.

I took the eleven a.m. ferry across. I rode my bike down to the ferry docks. Well I did not ride my bike all the way down from my home in the northern part of the city. I am crazy but not that crazy. I did what some folks do, ride my bike to the nearest Subway Station and take the train down to near the docks, then ride to the docks. Back to my story. It was a mild, cloudy day. But as I got off the ferry the sun came out. I rode over to the beach, which is about a 20 minute walk. 10 if you've got a bike and are slow like me because this is your first bike ride of the season and do not have a cycling rear end yet.

I found my friend Mikey who arrived much earlier than me, he got there at 8:30am. I then got into the comfortable attire and just relaxed. We took a walk along the beach and it felt good. There is a lot of sand. The water is cold but that is Lake Ontario for you. There are barriers up, fences if you will and signs that say it is a clothing option beach and no nudity beyond the fence, yadda, yadda, yadda, ya. The city will be putting in port-o-potties for us. It was nice being there and not have to worry about being slapped with a fine, the police boat went by a few times to make sure things were ok and that there was no trouble going on. I waved to them and they waved back. It's nice to sit back and relax in a legal place. Without the fear of breaking a law. The only downside is that there will be gawkers, and the planes. The beach is near the island airport. But hey come AIRSHOW time we will have a good view. And plus a lot of Hot Air Balloons and Air Ships take off from there so we got a bonus there. Had the weather been nicer there would of been more than 20 people there. The more people that are there the better chance that this beach will break free from the Test Phase it is in.

That means that the city will give us more than five feet of beach if it is seen as we are needing it. The more people that come to the beach the better chance we will have in getting more beach space.

I and my small band of friends stayed til 4pm. As we were getting dressed to leave a photographer from the Globe and Mail came by to snap a few pictures of us. So we will be in the paper on Monday. Me, Greg, Mikey, and Bob rear ends are famous. I had fun yesterday. You can watch sail boats on the water, see big freighters coming in from Hamilton Ontario, lake Erie, etc, and watch the airplanes coming and going from the Island Airport.

So if you ever plan on coming this way take a 15 minute ride on a ferry to Hanlan's Point and come to the beach and just sit back and enjoy the freedom.
