Kouchibouguac National Park, New Brunswick

August, 1998

I visited Kouchibouguac National Park in New Brunswick, Canada in August. Hoped to camp in the park, but it was (predictably) full. It takes 2-3 days on the waiting list to gain a site. Once you do, they are pretty nice over-all. Reserve if you can!

Anyway, the main beach is actually a kind of barrier island, reached by a long boardwalk (don't forget anything). Once you reach Kelly's beach, wade through the crowds & turn right. within 5 minutes' walk you are largely on your own. Being new to nudism, I walked 20. :-) Pretty soon, you begin to see small driftwood "privacy fences," erected, I assume, to allow nude sunbathers privacy from the casual beachwalkers who go up and down all day. This being a weekday, there was no "core" or "cluster" of nude bathers, just 1 or 2 people doing their own thing, and then another group further on. Saw couples (gay and straight), single parents with kids, and folk on their own, a real mix. Finally found my own spot and enjoyed the sun, before diving into the Atlantic. The water was suprisingly warm: a few jellyfish, but not enough to spoil an absolutely wonderful natural experience.

Bottom line is this is a good place for a shy nudist, but don't go expecting a social nudism experience, at least not on a weekday. A beautiful spot. (one hour north of Moncton, the nearest "big" city).

I'd be interested in hearing from other folk who have been there.
