Lions Bay, Vancouver, BC, Canada.

July 2001.

I've been sunworshiping at this heavenly location, not far from the city of Vancouver, for the 10 years that I've lived in BC. Unofficially clothing optional, it's the hang-out for middle-aged couples and lesbians who don't want the party atmosphere of the famous Wreck Beach. Large homes dot the shoreline to the north of the beach and rocks somewhat partion off the nude section from the homes. Difficult to get to, its not much of a place for the random gawkers.

I've seen police cruising the area once or twice and find them to be courteous and pleasant, I guess just making a presence for the sake of the elite on the north side and to ensure that drugs and rowdyness don't get out of hand. Not that that is a problem. The beach is immaculate. You'd be hard pressed to find a candy bar wrapper let alone the condoms and needles the locals say proliferate their rocky cove.

On Friday (July 13th) 2001, a new officer decided to show his stripes and speak to each bather, promising continued harassment and possible arrest if he continues to see the same people there, doing the same thing (namely, being naked as god intended). I have no reports to go on, no record or accounts of whether the beach has been given any type of nude beach status. I'd love to know more. If anyone can help, much appreciated.
