About a week or so ago thru the magic of the internet, I learned about one of Canada's best kept secrets; the nude beach at Port Burwell on Lake Erie just Southeast of London.

Not being able to resist a new nude experience, I stopped there for a quick look see on the way home from a day at the Ponderosa Nature Park near Hamilton, Ont. What a pleasant surprise. The privately owned beach is just west of the Provincial Park beach which is just west of the bridge in downtown Port Burwell. The park costs nine dollars for a day pass which seems steep for a crowded and somewhat unkept public beach but it does provide a nice safe place to park your car (go all the way to lot #5).

When I got to the Park beach in front of lot #5, I turned right and walked to the West as I learned from my internet search. After walking for about five minutes, I came upon a nice looking young gal sunning all by herself but wearing a fitting and proper bathing suit. I stopped and asked her if she knew where the nude beach was. She acted a little disgusted but then smiled and pointed "on down there someplace". SHE KNEW!!!! Actually she was the last person I saw with their clothes on so she was real close, maybe just trying to build up the last full measure of courage to take the plunge to the altogether.

And then a strange thing happened, as I walked further West, I began to notice auto tires stacked in neat piles every so often rather than just littering the beach as was the case at the Provincial Park. And the beach itself seemed noticeably cleaner. About that time a clothed couple came walking toward me and I once again asked "where's the nude beach". They laughed and announced, "you're on it". I guess they were just leaving as it was already about 5 PM.

I immediately walked over to a handy log of driftwood and pulled off my shirt and shorts. Nude at last, "can this be for real". For the next hour or so I saw nothing but nude people, mostly couples, a few single guys, and believe it or not two different solo women. Nice sand, clean beach, PARADISE! I later met a couple and ended up walking out with them and they were friends of the land owner and said this had been a nude beach for years. The nude beach goers pay the owner back by keeping the beach as spotless as possible. What a deal!

It appears the only possible access to this beach is thru the Provincial Park as there is very dense forest right up to the 100 meter wide beach. This does provide a primitive cover when nature calls as there are absolutely no facilities. The only rules other than common courtesy is to remove all of your litter when you leave, a real no brainer, and please be off the beach by 7PM as the owner's wife sometimes likes to take sunset walks on her beach and doesn't like a lot of nude people milling around. Not bad at all, I'll go for that and I'll be going back several more times this summer.
