Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba Trip Report

Cayo Santa Maria is a new small island located north of the main island of Cuba not far from Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo.

Since it is a new destination, the only hotel operated by Melià Group has been opened in December 2001. The nearest airport able to accommodated bigger jets is located at Santa Clara. After landing you have to spend a 90 minutes bus drive to get Cayo Santa Maria. You will pass through typical Cuban cities or villages like Remedios and Caibarién.

The hotel is located in an ecologic reserve and the last 48 kilometres is done on a 'paraplen' or if you prefer a road directly constructed over the sea.

Sol Club Cayo Santa Maria hotel is consisting of a series of beautiful villas of 2 rooms or 4 rooms (2 stories building).

It is an all inclusive package. On place activities are much diversified like nautical, gym, tours, midnight shows even a small disco. Cuban personal will give you a warm welcome with a constant smile. One of the most interests of this place is the clothe-optional section of the beach. It covers the west part of the complex and it is fully equipped with sunshade, more than 30, and a lot of chairs. You can go nude for long walk.

It is fully secured and you won't be bordered by anybody.

Many of us were feeling that we have reached paradise.
There also other beaches located just before the complex in the area of Playa Ensenachos that are even more quiet and beautiful.

You can also plan a catamaran naturist day trip that included snorkelling and stops on deserted beaches.

Cayo Santa Maria; compte-rendu des séjours de mars & novembre 2002

Cayo Santa Maria fait parti d’un petit groupe d’îles situées au nord de l’île de Cuba près de Cayo Coco et Cayo Guillermo. Cette nouvelle destination a été inaugurée en décembre 2001 et l’île ne compte présentement que le Sol Cayo Santa Maria de la chaîne hôtelière Melià. Après l’atterrissage à l’aéroport de Santa Clara, il faut compter faire un trajet de 90 minutes en autobus qui traverse les villes cubaines de Remedios et Caibarién entre autres.

Le complexe hôtelier est situé dans une réserve écologique et les derniers 48km du trajet sont réalisés sur un paraplen' sorte de route digue cheminant sur la mer et certains îlots. Le complexe Sol Cayo Santa Maria est constitué d’un ensemble de petites villas de 2 ou 4 chambres. Comme il s’agit d’un forfait tout inclus, plusieurs types d’activités sont disponibles allant d’un centre nautique, gym, spectacles, animations jusqu’à une mini discothèque. L’accueil du personnel reste très chaleureux et attentionné.

Un des joyaux de cette nouvelle destination reste sa plage dite “libre” consacré à la pratique du naturisme. Très bien équipé de palapas (parasol) et de chaises, elle située directement sur le secteur ouest de la plage face à l’hôtel. La plage est bien étendue et permet de longues randonnées naturistes en parfaite sécurité et sans aucune chance de sollicitation. Plusieurs en reviennent avec une impression profonde de paradis. D’autres plages situées un peu avant l’hôtel se prêtent bien au naturisme en particulier la playa Megano située à l’est de playa Ensenachos. Ces plages sont encore plus belles et isolées. Vous pouvez aussi planifier une journée naturiste en catamaran avec l’aide de la représentante du grossiste de voyage. Plongées en apnée et visites d’autres plages désertes sont au programme.
