Couples, Ocho Rios, Jamaica September 1995

The island is located just off-shore. You can see it clearly from the beach. You could swim to it (one couple did it everyday) but it is a good swim. The island is clearly a nude island. The staff makes that clear and will tell people who come and don't disrobe.

Most people take the shuttle boat to the island. It runs on demand so it isn't a problem. You just stand on the dock (either on the mainland or on the island) and someone runs to the boat, starts it, and comes to get you. Besides, you're on your vacation so when would you be in a hurry?

Here's a picture of the island taken from the top of the tower. The large roof is over the pool bar. There are other smaller roofed areas where you can lay without being in full sun. The tower also contains the one toilet. You can swim from several parts of the island but the best swimming is where the boat lands. That area is sandy whereas the ocean side is rocky. We swam there several times. No one seem to care although there was the occasional curiosity from the people on the main part of the resort. (those without the nerve to come and see themselves) However, I can't see how they got to see much and even if they did, we certainly didn't care.

The island pool is the nicest part of the resort. I heard one person complaining because they couldn't use the swim-up bar because it was on the nude island. In my mind, that's unfair. That's like complaining you can't use a restaurant on top of a building because you're affraid of heights.

The bar was very friendly and generally the same guy. When he went on a break, we convinced him to leave things unlocked and we took turns being bartender. That was fun! Some people are uncomfortable talking to people because they are nude. However, others quickly put them at ease by being friendly and showing them that things were normal.

If you want, the bar tender will bring some food for lunch. However, the selection is minimal and doesn't come close to matching the buffet on the main resort.

The island pool is L-shaped and wraps around the bar. It isn't good for swimming but is great for socializing, soaking, cooling off, and generally relaxing. There are stools just below the water and you can either sit at the bar or around tables.

We met a lot of very nice people. It became like a small club. The same people would tend to come everyday. Some people would come once and leave very quickly.

We were feeling very good in this picture. The idea was to take a picture which everyone could show to their friends and family. It was meant to show nudity without actually showing anything. However, the couple on the right got a bit confused.
