The Art Deco sauna (http://www.saunadeco.nl/) at Herengracht 115 is a spot of beauty and quiet in the rather rowdy city of Amsterdam. Nudity is the rule for the sauna and clothing is not tolerated in the saunas or steam bath. The decor is old style art deco and is originally from a Paris department store.

This gives a very subtle lighting and creates a marvelously relaxing atmosphere. There are two saunas, one hotter than the other. Each sauna has two levels and proper sauna rocks for splashing and steam. There is also a very nice steam bath that looks like an old bank vault. The cold dip pool is fairly warm by North American standards, but makes up for it by the addition of a stream jet for swimming against.

For relaxation areas, there is a small garden, an outside bench and many indoor areas for reading or lying down. There's also a bar that provides coffees, cappuccino, teas and healthy foods. A towel or wrap is worn in the relaxing areas, but I saw many people going nude in the garden area.

There is also a large shower room and changing area and a smaller shower near the cold plunge pool. All facilities are for both men and women. Massage services are offered on the premises as well. Towels are available at the front desk, and you are given a locker for your personal items. The evening manager was kind enough to allow me to take some photos after hours before the summer closing period. This facility welcomes men and women and there are no restrictions on single men but found that there was generally an equal mix of men and women. The feeling is laid back and relaxing. Boisterous or indiscreet behavior is not welcome. This place is a jewel not to be missed if you're in Amsterdam.
