Cap D'Agde, France, Report.
July 2004
I have just returned from Cap D'Agde where I spent two weeks with my partner and wanted to give you all my views on the experience.
I had been wanting to go to the Cap since I first heard about it many years ago and it was all in all an enjoyable experience but you need to be prepared that this is not your 'average' Naturist resort. The accommodation is spread between apartments and villas and there is also a large campsite area with log cabins and free ground for bringing your own camper van and/or tent. The apartments are split into three areas but all in all they essentially look the same, Port Ambonne, Port Nature and Heliopolis are all white, concrete, very dated looking constructions but all have large balconys though the apartments themselves are pretty small and basic. A major refit is called for but they do the job of providing, safe, secure, clean accommodation. They look like they were built in the 60's and do have the feel of an East German Prison block though this may be a little harsh, but, if you want luxury, either stay in a villa or at the Hotel Eve. Hotel Eve is the only hotel in the Naturist complex.
The beach is sandy, beautiful, wide, clean, with lovely sea but very cold water even in late June. It really is wonderful and is very shallow for a long way out so is excellent for families and young children. There are areas of the beach which have a lifeguard presence also. The beach is split into three main areas, families nearest to the accomodation, then there is the swingers area, then the gay area. More of the 'swinging' side to the Cap later...... There are a good range of bars, clubs, shops, supermarkets, boutiques and a fine choice of restaurants.
It is the shops that give you the first indication of the more dominant side to the Cap. The non truly Naturist, more sexual side of "The Naked City" Essentially, if heterosexual 'swinging' is your thing then baby, you're in paradise ! The shops sell a wide range of fetish wear, leather, rubber, lace and there are at least 10 shops selling these products. Once it gets to about 7.30pm and indeed all night, nudity is in the extreme minority and 99% of people there suddenly appear in the most bizarre and outrageous 'sex clothing'. It's like someone tripped a switch and suddenly we were surrounded by all shapes and sizes walking around in the most outrageous clothes. There are a large number of heterosexual swinging clubs and saunas and it was quite an eye opener.
If you like a quiet moonlit stroll in a low key, Naturist setting then you will be in the wrong place. In the night The Cap is about sex. There are open air bars with female topless Go Go Dancers and many heterosexual places to meet up, swap partners and 'do your thang'! If you want a Naturist holiday I would suggest you look elsewhere as this is Naturism with a sexual edge (if that's possible ???) If you wander up from the Family area of the beach into the swingers section and believe me you will know when you get there, you will see different sexual activities. Depending on which area of the beach you walk onto you are very likely to witness explicit adult activity at various times of the day - You have been warned ! If that is not what you want, it may be best to holiday elsewhere.
Once the lifeguard station closes and there are no police around which is usually at 6pm then hetero couples engage in full sex at random. I am a Gay man of 39 and have seen a lot in my life but it was 'pretty full on' and the first time I witnessed this it was pretty shocking. Each to their own of course and good for them but if you aren't expecting it , it can be quite a shocker. The majority of people are 40plus so there is an older age profile.
The Cap is a lovely location with great weather whilst we were there but Be Warned - it ain't for everyone and on balance I will not be making a return visit ! There is only one Gay bar and throughout the two weeks we were there all the homosexuals were dressed in shirts and jeans in the night whilst the heterosexuals went completely wild, it was like the world had turned upside down - lol Well that was My Cap experience, pretty bizarre on reflection and I don't see how anyone could visit there without seeing what I did especially in the nightime so it is not a place for families I don't think though there were about 10% families there.
Hope I haven't offended anyone but I wanted to be honest on what I thought as I wish I had known more about it before we went. Cheers, Mrbee
