Cap d'Agde. AUGUST 1997. This time we both visited the resort together. So these are our joint thoughts on how the Resort is today. The rumours have abounded regarding Cap d'Agde. "The place is run down." "It has been taken over by textiles." "Nothing much has changed". What to believe? Well we are pleased to say that Cap d'Agde is well and thriving and unique place where you can do everything in the nude. A naturists paradise. It has been quite some time since we were last there and we were pleased to see that the grounds if anything are much better kept and the place seems much cleaner. There is still a dog problem though. But even that isn't quite as bad as our last visit. There certainly aren't as many strays and the dog owners do seem to clean up after them. One of the resorts highlights is the beach. It is kept remarkably clean. And no, it is not populated with "textiles". There were very few clothed people on the beach we are pleased to say. Over recent years in naturist publications there has been much said about what goes on the dunes behind the beach both during the day and at night in Cap d'Agde. Whether these reports have been true or false does not matter. Suffice to say, this year it is reported that the police in the resort are taking measures to stop any untoward sexual activities in the dunes. We understand that anyone who ventures into the dunes after dark can find themselves under close observation by police with binoculars and even by police on horseback. Needless to say these operations have had the desired effect of "cleaning up" the dunes area. We were sad to see that the small pool in the centre of the Port Ambonne complex was once again derelict. Last time we were there it was being used but couldn't have done well as this site is for sale. There is no doubt that the pool is too small for commercial use when compared to the others in the resort and we think that a new plan should be adopted for this area. It might be better to "open up" the entire centre area and pave it over with perhaps some garden areas. This could be used for cafe tables and such and such an area would attract much more business to that section. Let's hope that something is done with it before next season. We both certainly enjoyed our trip to the Cap and were happy to see that it is still the unique destination for naturists from throughout the world. In fact we came across naturists from as far away as Japan, Australia and New Zealand while we were there. The resort is unique in the fact that you can remain nude during your stay there. Even shopping can be done nude. That isn't true of most naturist places. Clothes of varying degrees are worn by most people in the evenings when going out to eat but there isn't really anything to stop you eating nude if you wish. Certainly if you cater for yourself then there is no need to wear anything for your stay. It is quite strange though that some people go to Cap d'Agde and seem to never take their clothes off. The couple staying in the next apartment to us were such folk. Could it possibly be that they didn't realise they were staying in a naturist resort? How strange. Our apartment was clean and well equipped. As usual we made our holiday arrangement using Peng Travel and as usual we had no complaints about the arrangements. If fact the Peng office in the resort has been extended and there are more facilities there. Luggage handling to your apartment is also much improved and Peng's friendly representatives made us feel very welcome. If you want details of Peng Travel then please e-mail us for their address and contact telephone number. So Cap d'Agde is still alive and well we are happy to say.
