Munich (Germany) Report

Summer 2001

Only this year have I become active as a nudist. I have thought about it for years and practiced it at home from time to time but this year was my first experience in a social nudist club. I finally got motivated earlier in the summer and made a visit to a singles friendly rustic nudist resort in Indiana near my home in Kentucky. It was a wonderful experience. Since the family is not very interested I went by myself. I was comfortable from the beginning and I was hooked. It is a bit of an oxymoron that you could take off your clothes and feel very comfortable with a group of strangers but I was. I have visited there a few other times but this report is about a trip to Munich Germany after my first experience at that club.

I visit Munich from time to time on business. The European attitude toward nudity is very casual and open. I had experienced an occasional encounter of things like a woman changing clothes beside a swimming pool but these were before my nudist experience in the USA.

The hotel had a "Wellness" center (Gym) that was only a few doors down from my room. It had a huge hot tub, some equipment like treadmills and cycles, a dry sauna, a steam sauna, and showers. I decided to check it out simply for the possibility of relaxing a bit on my week long stay and help with jet lag. The first time I went in there was an attendant who spoke English. Everywhere you go in Munich it is easy to find people that speak English. She gave me a brief tour. I told her I had not brought any swim wear for the hot tub and she said "Oh nobody will care what you wear here and most wear nothing ... please don't feel like you cannot come if you have nothing to wear". I thought that might be the case but she was very matter of fact about it. I went back to my room put on just a robe and went back. I dropped the robe by the hot tub and climbed in and the attendant seemingly did not even notice.

I was a bit modest with a towel when I moved from the hot tub to the sauna then later to the shower but nobody else entered the club while I was there on that night. Before I left the attendant encouraged me to try the dry sauna then jump in a cold shower. I tried it and it was quite an experience.

The next night I went back to the club with just my robe. When I entered there was a man on the exercise equipment with a robe on but his partner, an attractive woman, was back by the hot tub totally nude doing some exercises. I walked back to the hot tub and dropped my robe and climbed in. In a minute or so she climbed in and greeted me with a smile and said hello, apparently guessing I was American. We said a few words in English and then the man came back and climbed in. We chatted a bit and in a few minutes they climbed out and headed for the sauna. Again, although nude, I felt strangely comfortable with some total strangers. They made me feel very much at ease. I followed without my robe and we all worked up a sweat in the sauna. They were very matter of fact about the whole thing and chatted with each other in German. In a few minutes they headed for the shower. When they were done in the shower I went to try my cold shower again. They dried off put on their robes and headed back to their room.

I went to the wellness club one more time but I was the only person there but by then no robe or towel was necessary except on the walk down the hall from my room.

Later in the week on the same visit I had one of the folks in the company I was visiting (actually the parent company of where I work in the USA) take me to the English Gardens park in Munich. It has a clothing optional area. It was later in the day and we were just walking through on the way to dinner. A few folks, mostly men, were on towels nude. My friend related, in a very casual manner, "if you are in to nudity I should return at lunch on a warm day and jog the park with the nude runners". Apparently men and women come from work at lunch and do a nude jog, jump in a cold crystal clear creek that runs through the park, and return to work. I wanted to try it but I had to return to the US the next day. My next trip during warm weather I am going to at least take a nude walk in the park.

I am now a converted nudist. I wish I had started long before my 50 birthday but better late than never. I wish I could make more trips to the local nudist resort but my Germany trips, the park, and the health club at the hotel where I regularly stay will help make the long trips a better experience. I am looking forward to the next trip to Munich.
