Last Monday May 5th, my wife Anabel and I, Gabriel, have returned from 4 wonderful days at Desire Resort in Cancún, which just have opened last April 28th as a couple only, nudist resort. You can't imagine how much we enjoyed that trip. The resort is very, very beautiful, even it is in its last details (gardens, for example, are not perfectly manicured), and some rooms have small failures.

They have two restaurants (one buffet and one specialties). The first is good, not excellent; the second wasn't ready the days we were there. There is a snack bar, with some good food like ceviche, and poor quality meals like burgers, hot dogs, etc. They should work a lot in the flavor of the meals, not in the quality of the ingredients. There are 4 bars: one at the main pool, one at the second pool, near the lobby, a wet bar by the Jacuzzi, on the top of the new building, and the fourth, at the disco. They serve good quality drinks, and delicious tropical cocktails, with or without alcohol.

The beach is great! White and fine sand, very calm and clear water; there are not hotels in the immediate neighborhood, so we could walk nude around 1000 ft northbound and more than half mile southbound. There are two pools: the main, with an "eight" shape, is about 100’ long, and 30’ wide, with a constant depth of 5’, ideal for swimming and games; the secondary pool, situated in front of the lobby, is smaller: two squares of 25’ x 25’ linked by a canal which is crossed by a nice wood bridge.

The disco is very well designed, with a wood dance floor with two poles, and a small stage with a more pole. Its size is exact for the size of the resort. You feel good with 10 or 50 couples there. There were contests every night. Anabel participated in all three. After the disco is Jacuzzi time. We went twice, Saturday and Sunday. The water isn't warm enough, but they said that have some troubles with the heater and will solve soon (we hope, because in winter it will be impossible being there with this temperature of water).

A very important fact that makes the trip more enjoyable is staff: Most of people are very young (between 18 and 30), very kind and very smiling, except for the woman at the snack bar. They try to remember your names and preferences for drinks. There is an animation team too: they are 4 guys and 2 gals. One of the guys is completely dedicated to water sports (kayaking, snorkel, etc); other one is more in the organization than directly involved in activities, and the two remaining, Omar and Cesar, both Mexican, are the sparks of the fun. The two gals, beautiful and young Canadian girls, are nice and sympathetic, but this is their first job of this kind, so they are learning all the secrets of this difficult profession. They work from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, then from 9:30 PM to midnight at the disco.

There were several activities during the day at the pool area, including games like beach volleyball, water volleyball, horseshoes, water-polo, aquaerobics, table tennis, etc; and funny contests that they are improving and testing, like "69", "blindfolded identification of partner", twister, etc. There is a tennis court too. We knew that the day before departing, so we didn't have time to organize a match. Next time, for sure. The spa is great: Brand new, it has a small gym area with about 8 to 10 machines, all of high quality; it has two steam rooms, one for men and one for women, but you can use either of them with your partner if you don't have inconvenience: we did that. There is a sauna, not working while we were there, a Jacuzzi and several massage rooms, where they offer a great variety of massages, including a "couples massage" that we didn't take for important rea$on$.

Our budget for this trip was very, very limited. Politics about nudism are different that those appear at their website: Nudism is allowed at all outside areas, including the snack bar and pool bar. You can walk nude from your room to the beach or pool. You can be nude at the Jacuzzi or at the disco, if you want. You need cover up only for restaurants and lobby areas.

Regarding the rooms: we've stayed in a standard room, ocean view. I think this was the best location for a room. Upstairs, with a stair exclusively for our room, that takes you from the room to the beach in less than 30 feet, and to the pool in less than 50. But due its orientation, you didn't receive the noise from the pool area if you want to make a nap after the lunch. The room wasn't very large, but enough for us. Very, very comfortable, with a modern and quiet air conditioning equipment with wireless remote control, ceiling fan; a closet and some drawers under the TV, a safe box, a small freezer always with a couple of beers, 4 cokes and two quart bottles of water, and a coffee maker with real coffee.

The bathroom had a small shower (really small for two of us, but working well), a WC and a "bidet". The lavatory is outside the bathroom, which is very practice because you can, for example, brush your teeth while your partner requires some privacy. The ceiling was really beautiful, all in wood beams and planks, in descending angles. It was a terrace, shared with the neighbor room, which was empty while our stay. The terrace has an "equipal" table and four chairs. ("Equipal" is a Mexican rustic furniture made of wood and leather, very comfortable). It had phone, with a modern system, like many other hotels, that permit make direct dialing from your room to the entire world.

We knew a Jacuzzi suite where a couple of friends stayed. It was much bigger, but not nicer. It had only a queen bed instead our king. And the best of all: the prices. We paid, read carefully: $170.00 daily PER COUPLE, all-inclusive. Their regular rate for this year will be $220, but if you make a reservation before may 31; they'll give you the 5th night for free.

In conclusion, Desire Resort is a place for going and going again; each time your wallet permits it. El pasado lunes 5 de mayo, mi esposa Anabel y yo regresamos de unas vacaciones de 4 maravillosos días en el Desire Resort en Cancún, el cual abrió apenas el 28 de abril, bajo el concepto de resort de vestimenta opcional, exclusivo para parejas. ¡No pueden ustedes imaginarse cómo disfrutamos del viaje! El resort es muy, muy hermoso, aunque por estar aún en sus últimos detalles (los jardines, por ejemplo, aún no están al 100%), existen algunas pequeñas fallas.

Existen dos restaurantes (uno de sistema de buffet y otro de especialidades). El primero es bueno, no excelente; el segundo no lo pudimos utilizar porque aún no estaba funcionando durante el tiempo que estuvimos allí. Hay también un snack bar, son alguna buena comida, como ceviche o "chili beans", y alguna pésima como las hamburguesas y los hot dogs. Creemos que aún deben trabajar bastante en el sabor de los alimentos, no así en los ingredientes, que son buenos. Hay cuatro bares: uno en la alberca principal, otro en la alberca secundaria, cerca del lobby, un "wet bar" en el jacuzzi, en la terraza del nuevo edificio y el cuarto, en la disco. Sirven buenas bebidas, de marcas reconocidas, y deliciosos cocteles tropicales, con o sin alcohol.

La playa es muy buena. No es la mejor de Cancún, ciertamente, pero muy buena. Arena blanca y fina, escaso oleaje y sin hoteles en las inmediaciones, lo que nos permitió caminar desnudos unos 300 metros hacia el norte y casi un kilómetro hacia el sur. Hay dos albercas, la principal con forma de "8" de aproximadamente 30 x 10 metros, con profundidad constante de 1.50 mts., ideal para natación y juegos; la secundaria, situada enfrente del lobby, es más pequeña: en realidad son dos cuadrados de 8 x 8 metros, unidos mediante un canal que es cruzado por un bonito puente de madera. La disco está muy bien diseñada, con una pista de madera con dos tubos para baile y un pequeño escenario con un tubo más. Su tamaño es exacto para las dimensiones del resort. Uno se siente bien con 10 o 50 parejas allí dentro. Hay concursos todas las noches. Anabel participó en los tres que hubo durante nuestra estancia. Después de la disco es, regularmente, hora del jacuzzi. Nosotros fuimos dos veces, sábado y domingo. El agua no estaba lo suficientemente tibia por algunos problemas que aún tienen con el calentador. Esperamos que resuelvan ese problema, de lo contrario en invierno será imposible estar allí con esa temperatura de agua.

Un factor muy importante que hizo nuestro viaje aún más placentero fue el staff: La mayoría de los empleados son muy jóvenes (entre 18 y 30 años), muy amables y sonrientes, con excepción de la mujer que atiende el snack bar (ni joven, ni amable, ni sonriente). Todos tratan de recordar tu nombre y preferencias de bebidas o comida. También hay un equipo de animación: 4 muchachos y dos chicas. Uno de ellos está dedicado enteramente a los deportes acuáticos (kayaking, snorkel, etc.); otro más está más dedicado a la organización y los dos restantes, Omar y César, mexicanos, son la base de la diversión. Las dos chicas, jovencísimas y bellas canadienses son simpáticas y entusiastas, pero al ser éste su primer trabajo de este tipo, ellas aún están en etapa de aprendizaje. Ellos trabajan de 9:30 AM a 4:00 PM, y luego de 9:30 PM hasta la medianoche, en la disco.

Hay actividades durante todo el día en las áreas de alberca y playa, incluyendo volibol playero y acuático, water polo, herraduras, aquerobics, tenis de mesa, etc., así como algunos divertidos concursos, con cierta carga sexual. Hay también una cancha de tenis, aunque nosotros nos enteramos de esto ya casi para irnos, por lo que no pudimos concertar un partido. Será para la próxima. El SPA merece mención aparte. ¡Es grandioso!. Completamente nuevo, tiene un pequeño gimnasio con aparatos de alta tecnología; tiene también dos cuartos de vapor, uno para hombres y otro para mujeres, aunque en pareja puedes entrar en cualquiera, si tu compañera no tiene inconveniente, como nosotros hicimos. Hy un sauna, aún no en operación cuando estuvimos; un jacuzzi y varias salas de masaje, que no utilizamos por poderosas razone$.

Nuestro presupuesto para este viaje fue sumamente limitado. Las políticas acerca del nudismo difieren de las que aparecen en su página web, y que, según nos informaron, serán cambiadas en breve: En realidad, el nudismo está permitido en todas las áreas exteriores, incluyendo snack y pool bars. Uno puede ir desnudo de la habitación a la playa o alberca, lo cual es muy cómodo. Se puede estar desnudo en el jacuzzi (de hecho es un área designada nudista, no clothing optional). También te puedes desnudar en la disco, si lo deseas, lo cual llega a suceder con frecuencia. Es requisito cubrirse en restaurantes y área de lobby, únicamente.

En referencia a las habitaciones, nosotros estuvimos en un cuarto estándar con vista al mar. Creo que nos dieron el mejor cuarto en cuanto a localización: en el nivel superior, con una escalera exclusiva para nuestra habitación, a 10 metros de la playa y 20 de la alberca. Sin embargo, gracias a su orientación, era sumamente silencioso, apto para la siestecita de la tarde. La habitación no era muy grande, pero suficientemente amplia para nosotros. Muy cómoda, con un equipo moderno de aire acondicionado a control remoto, ventilador de techo, closet mediano, caja de seguridad, un armario con cajones en donde estaba la TV, un pequeño refrigerador siempre con algunas cocas, cervezas y botellas de agua, y una cafetera con café de verdad.

El baño contaba con una pequeña regadera, muy pequeña para ambos, pero con buen funcionamiento, el excusado y un "bidet". El lavabo está fuera del cuarto de baño, lo cual es muy práctico, y que permite que te laves los dientes mientras tu pareja requiere de cierta privacía. El techo es muy hermoso, de vigas y tablones de madera en diversas inclinaciones. Había también una terraza compartida con la habitación vecina, amueblada con una mesa y 4 sillas equipales. El teléfono es moderno, con un sistema que permite enlace directo local y de larga distancia.

Conocimos también una "jacuzzi suite" donde se hospedaron unos amigos. Era bastante más grande, pero no más agradable. Tenía sólo una cama Queen en lugar de nuestra King size. Y por último, lo mejor de todo: los precios. Nosotros pagamos $170 dólares por noche, POR PAREJA, todo incluido. La tarifa regular para este año es de $220 dólares, pero si tú reservas antes del 31 de mayo, te ofrecen 5 noches por el precio de cuatro.

En conclusión, Desire Resort es un lugar para ir una y otra vez, siempre que la cartera lo permita.
