o Israel Report. June 2006. On a brief trip to Israel my wife and I had a half hour to spare, so we wandered down to Atlit beach just to admire the Mediterranean. Imagine our surprise and delight when we found a single nude sunbather. He said he and his wife, and others often come to the beach and use it nude. There were also a few surfers, and some families, but the beach is unsupervised, clean, and I think the different classes of users coexist. To get there: take highway 2, which runs between Tel Aviv and Haifa. Note, there are 3 more or less parallel roads - Highways 2, 4, and 6. 2 is the most western, 6 the fastest. Atlit is above Caesaria, and below Haifa. Get off the highway at Atlit Junction, and go west. You will see on your right a national park, the old British concentration camp for illegal immigrants, used when the survivors of the Holocaust tried to get into British Palestine. On the left is a gas station. Keep going, and the road turns north. You will see a number of dirt roads leading to the beach. Take any of them, park, and go to the beach - it is a large flat clean beach with (in June) reasonable surfing waves. There are no signs, surveillance, or any other evidence of establishment. I suspect that if the first person who arrives at a chunk of beach takes off his or her clothes, the subsequent beachgoers can do the same. Thanks Mickey for the report. o Israel Report - Dead Sea. 2005. There is an official, sanctioned nude beach on the very north of the Dead Sea. From Jerusalem take Highway 1 to the Dead Sea. The road has a T junction at the Dead Sea. Go south. You will see on the left a sign for Kalya Beach. Take the dirt road, following the signs to Kalya, and park. There is a 25 shekel per person fee. To get to the nude beach go left immediately after the building, and make the first right turn thereafter. You will see a sign saying that it is a beach for nude recreation. The beach has chairs, showers. You can get food at the clothed part of the beach. The beach gets very hot- you do well with beach shoes. When we were there (on a Thursday) it was very quiet- but it allegedly gets full on Saturday. Floating in the Dead Sea is extraordinary. Thanks Mickey for the report. o Israel Report. A Time In Israel. Thinking of Israel? Thought of taking in the Holy Land? Do some real history? But no, as a naturist what kind of vacation would that be? From being in Israel for 5 months and living the nudist lifestyle, I certainly had major concerns when I accepted the contract position there. Would my nudist lifestyle be on hold for 5 months? As I found out promptly upon arrival, most of my thoughts were way out of date. The women do not cover themselves from head to toe, wrong country, or wrong century for Israel... o Israeli Beaches. July 2005. Another not so famous nude beach is "Ga'ash" (at the back of "twin" kibbutzim Ga'ash & Shfayim). It's part of a long stretch of beach that runs between north of Herzliya to south of Netanya (about 10 miles). There are also some off-road paths that will take you there. Usually quiet during weekdays, busier on weekends. Usually no children, and, sadly, very few women! Don't forget to bring drinking water, and be prepared for a "wild" beach type, often with refuse that came out from the sea or left by bathers. These are unofficial beaches where no authority maintains it. Thanks Julio for the report.
o Israeli Beaches Report. I read the Ron S. article about Israel, and I would like to add 2 more major beaches where you can enjoy nude swimming and sunbathing. Both are less then a hour (door to door) driving from Tel-Aviv. The first place called "Palmachim" beach - nearby the kibbutz with the same name (but separate from the kibbutz private beach) go to the "commercial" beach, pay 10 nis (about US $ 2) for parking, then take a 5 min. walk south and pass the big rock. You made it. Recommended for weekdays... (click link to read the rest of the report.)
