COSTA NATURA - 1997

A description of Costa Natura, the beautiful naturist resort in
Southern Spain.

Costa Natura was the first naturist complex in Spain to be
officially approved, and has therefore played a primary role in
helping naturism achieve the acceptance it enjoys in Spain today.
Costa Natura lies directly on the Mediterranean coast, 80
kilometers from Malaga, and 34 from Gibraltar, (which is visible
from the beach.) The closest city is Estepona, at a distance of 3
kms. It lies on the Costa del Sol, which really deserves its
name, as it is possible to sunbathe the year round. Even in
December it is light until almost 7PM, and sunning is possible at
least some of the day.

The complex is laid out in the style of an Andalusian village,
with winding pathways, and apartments of different sizes, grouped
together in various forms. One of the most attractive features
are the gardens, for which Costa Natura has won several prizes.
Flowers bloom all year round. There are 189 apartments of various
sizes, for up to 2, 4, 5, or 6 persons.(Up too, because they are
rented by apartment, regardless of the number of occupants,
therefore, while you are free to rent an apartment for 6 by
yourself, you are not allowed to overstep the maximum number of
tenants.)

All apartments have a large terrace, cooking facilities, shower
or bathtub. The residential area is laid out around the sunning
area,a beautiful lawn area, the central portion of this is the
swimming pool (an enclosed pool is also under consideration)
and the restaurant, for those who don't wish to cook for themselves.
There is also a refreshment stand, shuffleboard, chess or checkers,
ping pong, and, of course, volleyball, a whirlpool and a sauna
with masseur. A hairdresser comes once a week. From here it is
six steps down to the beach proper, a sandy beach, 600 meters
long.

In Spain it is illegal for any beach to be closed to the general
public, and therefore, although the complex itself is closed
to non-residents, the beach area is open to anyone who chooses
to use it, and it is gratifying to say that an ever increasing
number of local residents do so.

Gawkers are unknown.

Most apartments are privately owned and are rented out when the
owners aren't present, there are however a large number of
permanent residents, in general people who have retired there. In
my estimate about half of the owners are English, the majority of
the rest German speaking from Germany or Switzerland, there are
however Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Belgian, even
Norwegian. The most inviting feature of Costa Natura, aside from
its beauty, is the friendliness of the tenants, in a very short
time you are made to feel like one of a family.

For those who wish to cook there is a moderately well-stocked
store on the grounds, and a larger one a bit down the street
outside the complex. The bus for Estepona, quite a large city
with excellent shopping possibilities, stops right in front of
the entrance, although departure times are to be taken with a
grain of salt! However, the first person who drives out will
likely stop and take you along. As in all holiday resorts tours
are organized, to Gibraltar, Marocco, Seville, Roanda, for
example. The Costa Natura club organizes events every day, an
animator makes sure that above all the children have lots to do.

To reach Costa Natura you fly to Malaga, from there you can rent
a car, and keep it for the length of your stay, or else take a
taxi, which comes to approximately $80. Just tell the driver
Costa Natura.

Prices for one day, 1996 in pesetas are; (10,000 pts= about $85,
a very rough estimate, but not far off)

that's mine! The complex is open to anyone with or without
naturist affiliations.

Hope to see you all there sometime.
