o Capital Area Naturist Society Trip Report at Abbott's Glen, Halifax, Vermont. 2006. Capital Area Naturist Society at Abbott’s Glen, a clothing-optional bed-and-breakfast inn in Halifax, Vermont. February 3 - 5, 2006. The recently organized Capital Area Naturist Society (CANS), based in Albany, NY, held its first event, a winter gathering at Abbott’s Glen, a clothing-optional bed-and-breakfast inn in Halifax, Vt., Feb. 3 - 5. Six couples enjoyed the overnight accommodations and sumptuous meals provided by hosts Amy and Lindy Abbott. They were joined Saturday by another dozen or so friends, all summer regulars at the nearby Ledges on Harriman Lake. In addition to soaking in the hot tub and catching up over drinks in the cozy lounge area of the converted barn, attendees tried out the newly finished Finnish sauna and hiked, skied and snow-shoed around the 50-acre property, checking out the beach area along the resort’s extensive North River frontage. In a regression to childhood, some also went sledding and even played spin the (beer) bottle. The barn’s radiant-heated floors and a steady blaze in the wood stove made shedding those winter layers easy, and the fluffy white robes provided overnight guests were more than sufficient cover-ups for any quick forays outdoors. The robes were especially handy on the short walk to the sauna, where between bouts in the dry heat, Adirondack chairs provided a comfortable place to cool off beside the pond. As a testament to her culinary skills, Amy managed to have a group that ran the gamut from vegetarians to dedicated (they think) carnivores ooh-ing and aah-ing over the very tasty fare she served family-style in the resort’s dining room. Overnight guests were treated to Friday and Saturday dinners, Saturday breakfast, lunch and snacks and a Sunday brunch. Day-trippers joined us for lunch and cocktail hour snacks. Abbott’s Glen accommodations include three guest rooms with shared baths off a common space above the lounge and dining room in the barn and two rooms with shared bath and use of a living room in the main house. All are furnished with antiques and decorated with tasteful nods to the naturist lifestyle the inn promotes. Besides rooms, campsites are available in summer. Link to Abbott's Glen. o Huntington Gorge Report. 2006. Directions: From the general store on Rt. 2 in Jonesville, head east 0.2 mi., turn right over the tracks and cross a steel bridge, then a smaller bridge. Go left at the next fork on Dugway Rd. At the 0.5 mi. mark, turnoffs can be seen at intervals along the road. The first ones offer the easiest descent to the river; the ones farther up, where the gorge is much deeper, offer the best scenery. Enjoy! Rating: 5 Moons! Report: From The Ledges NUDIST PARADISE--see 90LEDGES on NUDISK I. HUNTINGTON GORGE, Jonesville, is a WORLD GUIDE class Naturist area with the longest nude section of any gorge we know of--a full mile long and then some. There's something for everyone at Huntington, from easy access areas where youngsters can enjoy the shallow water safely and naturally, to Class IV hiking down the steep sides to high cliffs for diving. In times of high water, one can shoot the Entire length of the gorge in a raft or tube, but we wouldn't want to try it because we suspect the water would be FAR too cold. When the water's low it's quite warm, even by Vermont standards because the gorge enjoys good alignment to the sun even late in the day. Sandy beaches are several and sunning boulders the size of a house are everywhere as the river cascades over/through a seemingly endless series of waterfalls, chutes, and pools. Unlike some areas of Vermont where sunclads either (not necessarily willingly) mix with clothes-mindeds/may even be in the minority, NUDE is THE RULE at Huntington; during our visits, we saw only those clothed but by the sun, a very welcome situation for us = WE HATE CLOTHES, especially when the only rational choice is the healthy option of Naturist (un)dress. There's more good news at this VERY well established area--we saw no gawkers. Regulars told us it's seldom a problem because the relief of the gorge is so irregular, gawker outposts are few. And MORE good news! We saw ZERO evidence of predatory/promiscuous homosexuals, also confirmed by the regulars, because Jonesville is far from any population center or tourist attraction. CAUTION: The upper gorge, used by clothes-mindeds, is EXTREMELY dangerous during high water. People die in the tricky currents with frightening regularity, including most recently, a State Trooper who was on a tether, yet, trying to rescue someone else. They both drowned. One is well-advised to avoid it; in our way of thinking, it's not worth going there anyway because no nudes use it. The last time we left Huntington Gorge we saw resident Vermonters exercising what's considered to be a birthright in the Green Mountain State. Down river from the gorge, several houses sit close to the river. At one of them, a couple was casually skinnydipping right in their own back yard on that sunny day. We tooted the horn and waved. It was NEAT! It was VERMONT! [No part of this post may be reprinted or republished for commercial use without express permission of El Dorado Hot Springs. For personal and club use only. o Irish Pond Report. 2006. Directions: From the Waitsfield/Warren Vermont town line, just south of the Punch Bowl (304PunchBowl), go south on Rt 100 for 0.7 mi. Turn right on Access Road toward Sugarbush. Go 1.7 mi. to the Southface sign and turn on dirt; bear right on the main road, go straight past the tennis courts on the left, and follow the road left to the gravel bank. Park and follow the grassy trail on the right; bear right at the first fork. Go 100 yards to the pond. Rating: 3.5 Moons. Report: We first read about this one long ago in the 80's version of Maggie & Jim Cunningham's VERMONT UNVEILED and were finally able to visit in 1997 while staying at the fabulous Punch Bowl just down the road. Only in Vermont could one find such a pristine pond within walking distance of high priced condos; a famous woman author with a novel recently on the Best Seller List frequently goes nude there. Not a speck of litter, nice firm gravel bottom, warm, clear water, grassy sunning area, good sun window, possible free nude camping and RV parking at the gravel bank. Long established tradition of nude use. Sometimes all there are nude, sometimes not, typical of areas like this. A short, easy hike and, contrary to the unwritten law of Nekkist areas, it's DOWNHILL all the way back to the parking lot. Elevation 1,872 feet. o The Ledges Report. Summer of 2006. Lots of great photos. Amid all the New England rainfall in the early summer of 2006, I had the luck of a mostly sunny day and an opportunity to escape to The Ledges on Harriman Reservoir in Vermont. The Ledges are named for the rock outcroppings along the shoreline when the reservoir is down from its high water level. This area is owned by the Pacific Gas and Electric National Energy Group, and has enjoyed a clothing-optional tradition for decades….which qualifies as a rare and special place for New England naturists and visitors. To get there, using the town of Wilmington along Route 9 in south central Vermont as a reference point (about 9 miles north of the Massachusetts border): follow Rt. 9 east for about a mile and turn right on Rt. 100 (south). Continue 1.2 miles and bear…I mean bare…right on Boyd Hill Road. This is a hard-packed dirt road; continue straight on Boyd Hill Rd. for another 1.2 miles to arrive at a picnic area with parking along the shore of Harriman Reservoir... o New England Report. 2006. I was on a short business trip to the Northeast US in mid-December, and was looking for naturist opportunities along the way. Wouldn't you know, everywhere I stopped it was mostly cloudy and cool, with high temps around 30 degrees F/0 C, some light snow, and freezing rain. Typically, that kind of weather would keep the average naturist down, but I'm one to improvise, and I was not to be deprived of my sunshine and vitamin D! We had a couple of hours of clear, deep blue sunny skies on a flight to New England at 37,000 feet, so I climbed out the over-wing aircraft exit and got some quality nude sunbathing time on the starboard wing. It was a bit windy to say the least, and the oxygen was quite thin, but the UV index was an outstanding 10+....perfect for tanning!

Folks, don't try this at home.... I'm a professional naturaviator! ;-) This report is brought to you by Nevada Naturist. He can be found on the message board under the same name.
o Rock River Report. From a member of this site: the swimming holes at Rock River are mostly waist high due to Irene. Most of the beaches that were there are gone but there are still many areas to sun.
o Swimming Holes East. You have found THE web site for over 150 beautiful, natural swimming places in 20 States in the Eastern U.S. - Maine to Florida. A cool, refreshing swim in a river, creek, spring or waterfall is the perfect compliment to your favorite outdoor activity - be it hiking, camping, canoeing, rafting or just exploring. Our focus is on moving, fresh water spots, like creeks, rivers, springs and waterfalls. We will also list swimming places on lakes, quarries or bays which have unique features that make them especially beautiful or fun for swimming, but not the typical state park lake or ocean beach. Visit the site for additional information.
