CAFN (Capital Area Family Naturists) Report

October 2004

My wife and I joined last April, but had not attended any events. Last Saturday, the second Saturday in October, the club held its first event since it became incorporated.

This was to be a party at a recreation center, complete with pool, spa, and the works. These parties would be scheduled, monthly during the fall and winter. We arrived at the party at about 8:00PM and were greeted by smiling familiar faces from the old club. After completing our registration, we headed down to the locker rooms.

For the CAFN party, both men and ladies locker rooms were co-ed. This was a nice feature, as at our local textile fitness center, weíve always thought how silly it is to have to split up at the lockers and meet at the other side. This way, families can stay together. We chose the menís side, and had soon locked up our belongings and showered. The facility has body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in the showers. We started out in the hot tub, which holds over a dozen people. Renewing old acquaintances and making new ones, the time flew by all too quickly. My wife decided it was time to go for a dip in the pool. Although the temperature was listed at 83, after coming out of the hot tub, it felt as if it were 38. Fortunately, we got used to the water temperature, fairly quickly.

The very large pool was divided into several swim lanes and an open area. Two lifeguards were on duty. There were several children playing in the pool. There was a gentleman paddling around in a small raft. The entire pool is only a few feet deep, and has the same level, everywhere. We walked around until we were used to the water, and then did some swimming. We renewed more old acquaintances as we paddled back and forth. Eventually, my wife became cold, so it was back to the hot tub.

A number of us were chatting among the bubbles when word came that the cake, in honor of the incorporation of CAFN was about to be cut. We headed upstairs to a room where the cake was laid out among various snack foods, such as pretzels, nuts and fresh vegetables. There was a brief ceremony, and the cake was eaten. We met several non members, who had registered for the party. In no time at all, my wife had them involved in a game of dominoes. By this time it was about 9:30. I know from past experience that once my wife sits down at the dominoes table, she will be there till the end of the party. I checked to see if I could bring her any food from the snack table or water from our locker, and then headed down to the fitness area of the recreation center.

I passed a TV area where some people were watching a football game on my way down to the exercise equipment. The facility has treadmills, and bicycles, and rowing machines available. I found a treadmill with more electronics on it than I knew what to do with. I walked on that thing for over 20 minutes, going over a mile, and never leaving the spot. The display screen claimed Iíd burned off some of that cake. While I walked, there was always activity around me. Behind me, there was a walleyball game going on in one of the courts. Massage time was being sold in a room just to my right. Of course, the kids were running all about, as well. After my exercise, I made another check of the domino game, and found even more players around the table.

As soon as Iíd replenished my wifeís snacks, I headed back to the pool. After several minutes of paddling, I decided to relax in the hot tub. I found three other people there. The conversation was pleasant and the water was, again, relaxing. Noticing that the party was going to end in just another half hour, I headed for the steam room. I chose the room on the menís side because the one in the ladies locker room was turned off for some reason. After several minutes of steam, I rehydrated with some bottled water and went to the sauna. Either I couldnít find it, or the light in the sauna was broken on the menís side, so I headed over to the sauna in the ladies locker room. Here, I lost track of time, conversing with one of the CAFN board members, who had come to the sauna shortly after I did.

By the time I got back to my locker, it was already 11:00PM, and my wife was already dressed, reminding me that I had an early appointment on Sunday morning. I grabbed a quick shower, and got dressed, already looking forward to CAFNís next rec center party.

The combination of a bunch of the nicest people one can find anywhere, along with a facility that includes exercise machines, a large swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, tennis, basketball, and walleyball courts, several televisions, and locker rooms with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryers, skin lotion, shaving cream, hair dryers, hair spray and deodorant, together with a clothing optional family oriented environment, make the CAFN rec center party just about perfect.
