Fernley Hot Springs, Nevada, Report.

2004

Directions:

From the center of Fernley, go west for a little more than 8 miles on US 95. Farm District Road comes in on the right (south) side of the road. On the north side of the road, almost opposite Farm District Road, go left on a dirt track northward, past a small water tower. Cross the railroad tracks (VERY carefully) and follow the main track west to the hot springs which are north of some small dune hills. There are other roads in there leading all over the place if you want to go 4 wheeling or find a secluded campsite.

Rating:

(Not rated).

Report:

This one is a diamond in the rough. It's not much of a soak, but offers free nude camping and it's quiet, except for the trains, which we consider to be wistfully romantic, even in the middle of the night. It's possible to be trapped in there by a parked train too, though they generally move after a couple of hours. Some people call it Hard Dunes Hot Springs because the sand dunes there are firm enough to drive up, even with 2wd.

If you go, please let us know what you find. It's been a while since we've been there. It may be quite impassible in times of wet weather, even with 4wd.
